Primary schools have reopened, and have in fact seen a rise in attendance following the improvement in security in rural parts of the country, but it's not clear when or if girls 12 year older will be allowed back into class.

The secondary schools have remained closed for girls. A new analysis by Save the Children, UNICEF and its Education Cluster partners has assessed who has returned to school in the past month across Afghanistan. The report shows the majority of secondary school girls -- about 850,000 out of 1.1 million -- are not attending classes.

Today is the UN International Day in Support of #V

Today is the UN International Day in Support of #VictimsOfTorture. Despite the absolute prohibition of torture under the international law, torture persist in all regions of the world, including #Afghanistan.

Although Afghanistan is a member of the treaty, the number of recorded cases of torture has increased.

Until torture is eradicated, we call on governments and leaders around the world to help to #stoptorture and provide reparation for all victims.

Today we honor and support victims and survivors of torture throughout the world.

At least 1,000 people were killed and more than 1,

At least 1,000 people were killed and more than 1,500 others injured after a 5.9-magnitude earthquake struck southeastern Afghanistan.

In this critical situation, we call on the international community and leaders to come forward and help the Afghan people.

In the beginning of May, heavy and unseasonal rain

In the beginning of May, heavy and unseasonal rainfall had caused flash flooding across Afghanistan. According to OCHA 3,381 people have been directly affected by the floods. It is likely that many more have been indirectly impacted due to the destruction of acres of agricultural crops.

Already in 2022, over 30,000 people have been affected by natural disasters in Afghanistan including more than 5,000 people affected by flash flooding.

In this difficult moment we need assistance, including food, shelter, and household items. So important that when providing humanitarian AIDS is to make sure this assistance is reaching the most needy people, for that we need a transparent mechanism.

One of #BRDmisson is making sure who needs most receive help.

Today is the #WorldRefugeeDay and Afghans are one of the largest refugee populations worldwide.

Recently, the USA and Canada have welcomed 116,000 Afghan refugees, Australia 16,500 and the EU an estimated 85,000 Afghans.

According to UNHCR, 2.2 million Afghans are registered in Iran and Pakistan alone. Another 3.5 million people are internally displaced, having fled their homes seeking refuge within the country.

Today we honor the resilience and courage all refugees around the world.

Addressing conflict-related sexual violence in Afghanistan has been made more complex by intersecting crises and inequalities. There is chronic underreporting due to stigma, insecurity, fear of reprisals, and lack of service.

On this International Day for #endsexualviolenceinconflict, we call for all to stand in solidarity with survivors and those working to support them on the frontline.

Afghanistan is experiencing one of the worst droug

Afghanistan is experiencing one of the worst droughts of the last two decades. Conditions are particularly severe in the southern, western and northwestern parts of the country.

Drought is a frequent and devastating phenomenon in Afghanistan and it is getting more regular and more severe. According to the World Bank, 70% of Afghans live in rural areas, and millions depend directly on agriculture for their livelihoods.

We call on government leaders to provide resources to fight droughts and to increase international cooperation to find sustainable solutions.🌍

About 9.6 million children in Afghanistan have bee

About 9.6 million children in Afghanistan have been unable to secure food on a daily basis due to a deepening economic crisis in the country, the impact of the Ukraine war, and continuing drought according to Save the Children.

Since August, the aid-dependent country was cut off from international financial institutions, while nearly $10bn of its assets were frozen by the US, triggering a banking crisis.

Afghanistan needs food assistance to save lives, however aid alone is not enough. We need a transparent mechanism to make sure the assistance is reaching the most needy people.

There are currently 12.9 millions children living

There are currently 12.9 millions children living in Afghanistan and sadly it is estimated that 1 million Afghan children are engaged in labour.

Yesterday we are observed the World Against Child Labour Day.
The theme for 2022 is Act Now, End Child Labour.

At BRD, we emphasize a lot on education as we believe it is one of the way for child Empowerment.

How do we do it?
📘We help vulnerable children by sponsoring their education.
👨‍🏫We provide vocational training and we offer their families opportunities to get involved with other BRD projects.

What have we accomplished so far?
👨‍🎓2300 children were sponsored and benefited from the program in Nangarhar and Kunar Provinces.

It is important for our children to be safe and grow up in an empowering environment as they are the adults of tomorrow.

Our Planet is everything and without it, life would not be possible. Today we are celebrating the World Environment Day hosted in Sweden and the theme for this year is "Only One Earth".

🔥To limit global warming to 1.5°C by the end of the century, we must halve annual greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.
⛈ The climate crisis causes extreme weather events that kill or displace thousands and result in economic losses measured in the trillions.
🌱Ecosystem degradation affects the well-being of an estimated 3.2 billion people or 40 percent of the world’s population.

At BRD our Environment & Climate change project is focused on "Capacity Building for Civic Action To Protect Environment". We are an active member of the World Cleanup Movement, and we have quite a few achievements.

🙋🏻‍♀️12000 volunteers have participated in the cleanup campaigns across the country since 2013.
📝 500 youth and members of civil society have been trained and are actively engaged in educating their communities.

Let's all act together as one for safeguarding our planet.

Afghanistan is suffering a humanitarian crisis wit

Afghanistan is suffering a humanitarian crisis with 23 million people facing acute food insecurity. The 2022 Humanitarian Response Plan for Afghanistan has a value of US$ 4.4 billion. However, according to OCHA Afghanistan, only 13% of the total required funding has been secured to date.

We acknowledge the commitment of the donor countries responding to humanitarian crises in Afghanistan but the secured amount still falls short of addressing urgent needs in Afghanistan.
We call upon the donor countries for their swift response to the growing urgent humanitarian catastrophes in Afghanistan.

BRD as a rights-based organization has been actively engaged both on the ground as part of the broader response of the current humanitarian crises in Afghanistan. BRD is also engaged in advocacy surrounding the EU response to current crises in Afghanistan focusing on key themes: delivering humanitarian assistance using a transparent and accountable mechanism, protection and resettlement of Afghans, and re-establishment of the fundamental rights of Afghan people.

BRD project on the emergency reapair and protectio

BRD project on the emergency reapair and protection of Shah Faizulla Tomb, a historic culture heritage site located in Ningarhar province is in progress. With the objectives: To provide urgent reapir ad protection measures for saving the culture heritage site from the risk of collops; Facilitate the active engagement of local communities in future safeguarding and maintenance of the site; And train the community members on necessary skills to provide primary response in emergencies and continues risk reduction of their heritage. In addition, the project through creation of job opportunities to members of the local communities as unskilled and skilled labors work, to support their families, contributes toward responding to the current humanitarian crises in Afghanistan.

#CulturalHeritage relates to traditional knowledge and traditional cultural expressions.

It connects the values of the past that have significance today that people want to pass to future generations.

However, cultural heritage is not restricted to what we, as a #community, are proud of.

Sometimes it is necessary that heritage reminds us of the mistakes and wrongdoings of the past so that our future generations can learn from it and use such #knowledge to build a better #future.

Half of Afghanistan’s 30 million people are under 18. Even though according to Afghanistan’s laws the minimum employment age is 18, children are routinely engaged in paid and unpaid labor. They are being exposed to hazardous working conditions, on top of that, long working hours force children to drop out of schools, making it even harder to break out of poverty.
